Installing ICS Software

Overview

The Database Xcessory 5.0 CD-ROM may contain several ICS products. If you purchased an ICS product (that is, you are not evaluating an ICS product), consult the accompanying cover letter to confirm the products that you have actually purchased.

License and Decryption Keys for Purchased Products

If you purchased an ICS product

If you purchased an ICS product, you require the following keys:

  • Decryption key--to extract the software from the CD-ROM. The key is included with the CD-ROM.
  • Activation key--to access the full feature set of the product. This key is not included with the CD-ROM. To obtain this key, contact ICS with information on your host systems. (Refer to for more information.)

License and Decryption Keys for Evaluation Products

If you are evaluating an ICS product

If you are evaluating an ICS product, keys are not required. However, you will not be able to save Database Xcessory UIL files without a license activation key. To obtain a temporary license key:

  1. Check to see if it is included on your CD-ROM. For example, in /cdrom/LICENSE (the cdrom pathname is where you installed the CD-ROM).
  2. If license key is not included on your CD-ROM, contact ICS.

The install script automatically calculates your exact disk space requirements based on the software you select to install.

Notes on the Install Script

The install script, setup , is located in the top-level directory of the CD distribution. Use this script to install any or all of the software packages on the CD-ROM.

Notation

Throughout this manual, a monospaced typeface is used to indicate text displayed on your screen. A bold monospaced typeface is used to indicate text you should enter in response to a prompt.

Prompt Format

The questions in the setup script have the following format:

Question {option1 / option2 / ...} "default option"

Press Enter at the prompt to select the default option, otherwise enter the desired displayed option. At other times, the setup script prompts you with the following menu format:

(Option#) option description

(Option#) option description

...

Select an option:

At the prompt, type in the number corresponding to the desired option.

Errors

On any non-fatal error, the installer provides the option to abort the install:

Install Error -- Unit "Database Xcessory Bin (SunOS 5)".
Abort install? {yes/no} "no"

If you choose to abort, the installer provides the option of removing anything already installed:

Remove partial install ("Database Xcessory 5.0" 0% done) {yes/no} "yes"

ABORT: Product Installation [Database Xcessory 5.0]

Installing into an NFS-mounted File System

During the normal installation process, the install script sets the file ownerships and permissions on all of the files in the software distribution. If you are installing the software onto an NFS-mounted directory, changing file ownership and permissions may not be allowed. If any file permission problems occur during the installation, a warning message is displayed.

Example error message:

WARNING: Error(s) installing member files...

Please continue installation.

See the session transcript, /usr/tmp/icsAAAa01296, for details.

Install Error -- Unit "Database Example Code". Abort install? {yes/no} "no"

You can continue or abort the installation at this point. You may abort the installation, export the destination file system with "root" write permission for the machine on which you are running the install script, and restart the installation procedure.

License Key

If you have installed Database Xcessory, you may need to install the FLEXlm license manager. Refer to for more information.

Starting Database Xcessory

To start Database Xcessory, choose one of the following commands, where ${DXHOME} is the directory in which you have installed Database Xcessory.

1. This decryption key is not the same as a DX license key. The decryption key is supplied with your software. A license key, only required for Database Xcessory, is obtained by emailing or calling ICS with information on your host system. In some cases, an evaluation copy might include a temporary key. See the section, and for more information.
