Automotive IVI

Intel wanted to display the powerful capabilities of their latest in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) solutions and turned to ICS for help.

Known as an innovator, Intel looked to ICS to help showcase core features, impressive graphics capabilities and ease of use.

Challenge

We were asked to design two types of interfaces: a futuristic design to evoke a visceral response and convey the strong performance characteristics of the device; and a modern design based on human-machine interface (HMI) usability standards.

Deliverables

  • Information architecture
  • Wireframes & prototype
  • Visual design compositions & assets

Methodology

  • User research
  • Problem & solution mapping
  • Competitive analysis
  • Skeuomorphic visual design

Our futuristic design showcased both ICS' visualization capabilities and Intel's hardware, which can render graphic-intensive designs and smooth animations without loss of performance.

We designed an asset-heavy, science fiction-inspired user interface (UI) packed with 3D assets, engaging visual effects and animation. This space-age skeuomorphic UI appeared as though it was integrated into the physical console of a production automobile. Our goal was to create a futuristic UI that pushes the boundaries of Intel's sophisticated hardware.

Intel's hardware ran the robust graphics application smoothly, easily handling the complex effects without any compromise to performance.

For the modern interface, ICS conducted extensive market research and analysis on Intel's feature set so we truly understood what their hardware was capable of. With that insight, we created an appealing design inspired by real-world automotive. Our graphic-intensive design resulted in a UI that would be familiar to today's drivers yet still push Intel's hardware capabilities.
