ICS Selected by VISIE to Showcase its Advanced Spatial Computing Technology for Robotic Surgery with Highly Lifelike Applications
ICS’ team built a flexible, scalable UI that preserved visual fidelity across all screen sizes, highlighting the extraordinary clarity, accuracy and real-time responsiveness of the VISIE platform
WALTHAM, MA – JUNE 24, 2025 – ICS, at the forefront of embedded software development for regulated industries, today announced it was chosen by VISIE to develop lifelike applications to showcase its cutting-edge optical platform. VISIE’s ultra-high-resolution 3D scans deliver real-time, remarkably precise 3D visualization of human anatomy – with accuracy more than 10X greater than current standards. The technology enables systems to see anatomy the way a surgeon does, intuitively and dynamically.
“ICS was able to quickly produce three applications and compelling demos to showcase our technology,” said Michael Landry, Chief Engineering Officer, VISIE, Inc. “We’re impressed by how effectively ICS leveraged their strengths in UX and Qt to meet our requirements and our tight deadline.”
VISIE’s high-res 3D scans posed a unique challenge given how critical it was to ensure pixel-perfect clarity and performance across vastly different display environments, from compact medical device monitors to 50-inch 4K displays. ICS’ design team developed a flexible, scalable UI that preserved visual fidelity across all screen sizes, highlighting the extraordinary clarity, accuracy and real-time responsiveness of the VISIE platform.
Because VISIE leverages 3D point clouds as the core of its advanced spatial computing platform, the ICS team had to adopt several inventive and uncommon approaches. They adjusted their way of rendering 3D scans, leveraging PySide6 and Qt 6.5 to create a bridge between VISIE’s backend and the QML interface to allow for dynamic, real-time visualizations. Additionally, they updated the UI to support the new CAAT-enabled system; developed scalable network architecture to handle 3D point cloud data and live transforms; and created custom QML components for seamless data rendering.
“VISIE’s technology is truly transformative, bringing dramatic new capabilities to robotic surgery,” said Peter Winston, ICS founder and CEO. “Enabling VISIE to present their revolutionizing tech in an exceptionally realistic and compelling way allows medical device companies to easily understand and recognize its striking advantages.”
After developing the first of ultimately three applications, VISIE asked the ICS team to design and build a demo for its Continuous Anatomic Auto Tracking (CAAT), a groundbreaking capability that dynamically tracks anatomical structures without the need for re-registration. Thereafter, ICS created two additional high-impact visualizations for knee replacement surgery with a goal to demonstrate how CAAT calculates precise gapping between the femur and tibia during movement, and how it tracks femoral motion to identify the hip's center of rotation. The applications have become a centerpiece of VISIE’s outreach to prospective partners.
