New U.S. Cyber Trust Mark Labeling Program is Welcome News

Cyber attacks from black hat hackers and bots trying to steal and extort money have escalated. So too have cyber-derived terror attacks by bad actors working to disable key infrastructure. Last year alone, more than 422 million individuals were affected by data compromises, including data breaches, leakage and exposure. And there were more than 112 million Internet of Things (IoT) cyber attacks worldwide. In this executive op-ed in the Boston Business Journal, ICS CEO Peter Winston applauds the Biden administration’s launch of the new U.S. Cyber Trust Mark cybersecurity labeling program aimed at protecting Americans against security risks associated with use of internet-connected devices, and implores device manufacturers to better safeguard their products in the face of an evolving threat landscape.
